UK student applications: A look at flexibility in visa rules
The world has almost stopped due to the pandemic. One of the most affected communities is the international students. Countries that host large numbers of international students are facing challenges that they were not prepared for. The UK is one of those countries which hosts approximately 300,000 students every year. Now due to this tough situation the government has started to interfere. Recently UKVI or United Kingdom Visas and Immigration came up with flexible visa rules to ease the stringent visa process. The new visa process has introduced different kinds of health precautions throughout the whole process. As per the present data from UKVI, approximately 50,000 Indian students were granted a UK visa in 2020 and more than that is expected in 2021. It was an increase of 130% from 2019. It is estimated that 2020 saw the largest increase in Indian students’ entry from 2011. On July 6, 2020, the UK visa application centers opened in almost 11 cities in India. The reopening of the visa centers happened in a phased manner. Their centers were only receiving Tier 4 applications only.
In order to stop the spread of the virus, UKVI has taken different steps. Most of these steps are also applicable to date. UKVI has allowed Tier 4 visas for international students to stop the disruption caused by the pandemic. This means students who have already gained admission can begin their courses online and apply for a UK study visa when they are ready to do so. The Graduate Immigration Route policy is designed to attract students to the UK and retain the best talent as much as possible. Ensuring good jobs for talented Indian students will help students and the country both. Talents are going to contribute to the growth of an economy that is affected by the pandemic. As per one official, the message is clear from the government of the UK, that the security and safety of international students are their higher priority. Throughout the whole process of application, it is being ensured. The New Graduate Route is expected to bring more students and rectify all the damages done by the pandemic. The UK government is also making sure that students get a solid chance to get their primary work experience after they finish their studies. A mobile visa facility is also being introduced, this will be an on-demand facility for the students. Once the visa decision is made then the passports can also be couriered to the student's home.
