Why Over 1.33L Indians went abroad this year for higher studies, most heading to US, Canada, & UK?
Indian students prefer Canadian universities more than any other country. More than 1,00,000 Indian students went to complete their foreign education dream. In accordance with the information received from the Bureau of Immigration has confirmed that 1,33,135 students have left the country.

The number of students is increasing year on year. As per the data it was found majority of the students have chosen UK, USA and Canada as their foreign destination for education. Education in the UK, USA or in Canada is popular all over the world and Indian students understand this part. As per the sources it was found that a majority of the students are receiving visa offers from foreign countries after completion of their graduation.
The government has created a portal called “MADAD” portal to solve different problems of students related to foreign education. Studying abroad has its advantages but there are several disadvantages. This is why students should and are encouraged to find Indian communities before they are landing on foreign land. Indian government is also actively trying to help students who are stuck in the Russian-Ukraine war. Overall, 22,500 nationals have returned to India since February 2022.
As per the foreign ministry students who were stuck in the Russian-Ukraine war have come back to the country. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian government launched the “Vande Bharat” Mission to help Indian students around the world. According to government data it was found approximately 2.97 crore students/passengers have been facilitated with Vande Bharat Mission.
"Around 40-50 Indian nationals are still in Ukraine, of which only a few are willing to return to India and their return is being facilitated by the Embassy." informed by government representatives that during the global Covid-19 pandemic, the government had launched the Vande Bharat Mission to repatriate Indian nationals and to facilitate the travel of passengers between India and other parts of the world. "Around 2.97 crore passengers (in-bound and out-bound) have been facilitated in the flights operated under the Vande Bharat Mission and Air Bubble Arrangements till date," government representative said Under Operation Devi Shakti, a total of 669 people were evacuated from Afghanistan. This included 448 Indian nationals, 206 Afghans z(including Hindu and Sikh community members) and 15 people of other nationalities (Nepal, Lebanon and Uganda) in seven flights (six flights operated between August 16 to 25, 2021 and the last flight on December 10, 2021). All Indian nationals who had sought repatriation to India were evacuated, she added in her reply.
One can understand that Indian students are more hesitant to move towards other countries than the UK, USA and Canada. Other countries which are providing values to Indian students but are unstable politically will be in difficult situations due to Ukraine-Russian war.
