For the time being the Canadian government has taken some steps to ease the process of admission for international students.  It all happened due to covid-19 pandemic and the regulations related to post study work permit is also being taken. Due to this pandemic situation, international students who are thinking about going to Canada for their higher studies may have to  cancel their plans due to travel restrictions. There are certain changes that have been made by Canadian authorities to make people eligible for their post graduation work permit. These rules also applied to immigration policy Refugee and citizenship of Canada. 
Getting a work permit from Canadian authority is dependent on the course that you are pursuing and obviously its duration. The work permit for the post graduate is generally issued for the length of the study program. The maximum work permit that has been given to one international student is approximately 3 years. This simply means that if you have a permit to study in Canada for 2 years you get a 3 year post graduate work permit visa.  Here is the catch is the course duration must be of at least eight months. 

Advantages of PGWP in Canada 

Post graduate work permits provide students a chance to get some work experience in Canada after graduation.  Although for the Indian students it should be acknowledged that these chances are only useful if you have  graduated from a recognized Canadian institution. Only certain amount of these institutions  are eligible to provide you the chance of getting a postgraduate  work permit

Eligibility criteria for Canadian post Graduate work permit

  • Students must have  studied in Canada  full time and the course length should be at least 8 months.
  • The work permit application should be submitted within 3 months or 180 days after completing the course. That application should contain the proof from the University of the institution.
  • Students should also possess a valid student visa.

Changes made by Canadian Authorities due to pandemic

There are a lot of changes that are happening around the world. In Canada there are some changes introduced in the immigration, Refugee and citizenship laws. International students these days are allowed to study online because of the pandemic. The online study Will not deduct any kind of score from their scorecard but 50% of the program has to be completed from Canada. Students who have completed their higher education in between May to September 2020 can complete their whole program online and will still be eligible for the post graduate work permit. 
International students who have enrolled in a program with a length 8 to 12 months starting from May to September 2020 can complete their entire program online from abroad and they are still eligible for a post-graduation work permit.
Students enrolled in a program starting between May to September 2020 and study online up to April 30, 2021, and graduate from more than one program can combine the length of their programs while applying for a post-graduation work permit, provided 50% of their studies must have been completed in Canada.
