Cranfield University was established in 1946 and its name was College of Aeronautics. The major growth and development started in the 1950s and 1960s. Institute was focusing on the research and development and design of aircraft. Slowly and steadily the university started focusing on the management and manufacturing of aircraft equipment and changed its name from College of Aeronautics to Cranfield University. In the following years the university received partnership opportunities from the Defence Academy,UK. Currently the university has two campuses one in Cranfield and the other in Shrivenham. The academic schools under the university are Cranfield Defence and Security, School of Aerospace, Transport Systems, Manufacturing, School of Water, Energy, and Environment, and School of Management.
